Logging into Athens or Shibboleth on the new SpringerLink platform design

The SpringerLink design introduced in 2023 has brought a change to the Single Sign-On (SSO) login journey for users from institutions.


The institutional SSO login prompt has been moved away from the 'Login' button on the top-right of SpringerLink pages to instead appear when the user reaches a page which contains pay-to-access content (i.e. a book, chapter, or article page for subscription content).

This change has been made to better utilise the new Springer Nature ID logins now used by individual users, and to match the login options with our Nature platform. A benefit of the SNID update is that it provides users with a unified account, replacing the need for separate accounts for each platform.
